while waiting for sara to pick me up for dinner last night, i killed some time at the stuart brent's books next to my office. i noticed that calvin trillin's book Tepper Isn't Going Out was out in paperback. I guess the dedication he wrote does not mean much if you are not a Trillin fan but if you are, and grew up reading his very dry and funny books about food, where his wife frequently shows up, there should be a "will make you tear up in public" warning sticker on the book. The dedication was to his wife Alice, who died in 2001:

"I wrote this for Alice. Actually, I wrote everything for Alice."

I surreptitiously dried my eyes on a nearby copy of the Lovely Bones and went to go get cheeseburgers.
